IAEA: Zaporozhye NPP can still take water from the Kakhovka reservoir

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirms that the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) still has the ability to draw water from the Kakhovka Reservoir. However, the operation of the water pumps is currently not continuous, as the channel of the Zaporizhzhya TPP (ZTPP) and the cooling pond near the ZNPP are already full and have sufficient water supplies for cooling for several months ahead.
The water level in the Kakhovka Reservoir near the ZTPP has decreased from 17 to 11.27 meters and continues to fall. This can result in a difference of two meters compared to other areas of the reservoir. In order to find out the reasons for this discrepancy in water levels, IAEA experts want to get access to the STPP.
The Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, stressed that the ZTEP plays an important role in ensuring the safety of the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
Recall that on the night of June 6, Ukrainian troops launched a series of attacks on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, which led to the destruction of the upper part of the station. However, the reservoir dam itself was not damaged. As a result, there was an unregulated discharge of water.
