IAEA inspectors discover non-radioactive leak at ZNPP

IAEA inspectors found damage to condensate tanks and non-radioactive leakage from them at the Zaporozhye NPP, should from a statement on the agency’s website.

The agency notes that four ZNPP reactors remain in cold shutdown mode, and two more in hot shutdown mode. The head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, stepped up his consultations aimed at creating a protective zone near the ZNPP.

“IAEA experts today assessed the degree of damage caused by intensive shelling of the ZNPP over the weekend. They confirmed that despite the severity of the shelling, key equipment remained intact and there were no immediate threats to nuclear security,” the statement said.

The Kremlin spokesman said that all countries of the world need to influence Kyiv so that the Ukrainian military stops shelling the station.

Active shelling of the Zaporizhzhya NPP by the Armed Forces of Ukraine resumed on November 19 and 20. According to Renat Karchaa, Advisor to the General Director of the Rosenergoatom Concern, 15 overflights were recorded, including through special building No. 2, where fresh nuclear fuel is stored. Today, Ukrainian forces shelled Energodar, where the ZNPP is located.
