“I was coughing like a pipe”: Kostomarov admitted that he swam in an ice hole while sick

The first symptoms of the disease in Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov appeared at the beginning of 2022. The athlete himself spoke about this on NTV.

According to him, his wife and partner Oksana Domnina fell ill before the New Year – she had a temperature of 39.5. After the holiday, they continued to perform, and, as Kostomarov suggested, he could “get hooked.” “My shoulder hurt, an old injury, for some reason it got worse…, I had to take injections, I started coughing,” he said about the onset of the disease in the show “Million Dollar Secret.”

The disease worsened towards the end of the New Year holidays. Having finished the performance (January 8), the skater went with his friends to the bathhouse – “swimmed in the ice hole.” “The accumulation of my illness, its “clogging” with painkillers weakened the immune system,” Kostomarov analyzes the events of those days. “I was coughing like a pipe, I couldn’t clear my throat,” he recalls, continuing, “I started to feel pain in my side, I realized that this was very suspicious.” “They took me to the hospital… then what happened happened,” said the Olympic champion. “I arrived, lay down on the bed and that’s it.”

On January 10, Kostomarov was admitted to intensive care with pneumonia. Later it became known that the skater was in serious condition; both feet were subsequently amputated.
