“I lost faith in people”: Sergei Glushko’s consciousness changed in Africa

“I don’t see anyone stepping on their heels”

Sergei Glushko several years ago began to take his first steps in painting. If earlier he mainly painted portraits of his star wife Natasha Koroleva, now he switched to African motifs. Tarzan presented his works to his fans, organizing the first large-scale personal exhibition in his life.

Sergei said that before his trip to Africa he was going through difficult times.

“At that moment I lost faith in people, in friends, plus there was a pandemic,” continues Sergei. – And in Africa I rebooted. I realized that I need to go back to the basics. We lived in a village in the jungle. They were specifically asked to make it as close as possible to local life. I was so captivated by the energy! I looked at their children: they were running barefoot on the ground, but at the same time they were all happy. And what a beautiful sunset there is, white sand on the shores of the Indian Ocean…

Returning to Russia, Tarzan painted more than a dozen paintings dedicated to Africa. The canvases feature African women and children, local landscapes. Sergei also presented paintings by Natasha Koroleva. True, the star wife did not come to the exhibition – the busy touring schedule took its toll.

That evening Tarzan talked not only about painting. Sergei was also asked about striptease. He is not going to share his experience yet.

“I am an absolutely adequate person,” Glushko continued. “I understand that I’m doing well.” Every year new Tarzans are born. But after 20 years I turned back and where are they? Where are the ones stepping on your heels? Maybe I’ve become blind, but I didn’t see them.

Probably, what I did, I did sincerely. And I didn’t go there just to earn money.

Same with paintings. I write them because I enjoy it. I don’t sell them: I have absolutely no goal of making a business out of it. My paintings are like children to me. It will be very difficult for me to part with them.
