In Russia, astronomical winter will come on the day of the winter solstice. It will be Thursday, December 21st. From this moment, the length of daylight hours will begin to grow, said Marina Makarova, chief specialist of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia.
“The winter solstice will fall at 00:48 Moscow time on December 22,” the expert said.
It used to be said that the sun on this day turns to summer, and winter to frost.
Makarova pointed out that the onset of astronomical winter does not directly affect the weather. “… these astronomical factors do not affect climate change,” the specialist of the Hydrometeorological Center specified.
In Moscow, minus 1-0 degrees is expected at night, plus 1-3 degrees during the day.
