“Husband for an hour” turned out to be a fraudulent gigolo: an unsuccessful love story of a Russian woman

How long the world will exist, so many women will trust the cunning male swindlers. And the examples of previous victims to another woman who fell for the bait of a charming swindler are not indicative: no one will deceive her, she can only be loved sincerely, without any self-interest. 47-year-old Irina Uporova from Yekaterinburg frankly told MK how she bought into the spell of a “husband for an hour”, who rudely swindled her.

“For six years I did not dare to tell anyone my story, I was ashamed and scared, I was afraid of this person,” Irina began the story. “But now I’m even ready to pay with my life, but to call this man to account, and, most importantly, to warn other women who may fall into a similar trap.

Irina was widowed at the age of 30. She had incredible love with her husband Oleg. But, unfortunately, he died in a car accident. She was left with a three-year-old daughter in her arms.

Over time, Irina began to try again to somehow arrange her personal life, but all attempts ended in failure. She did not leave the fix idea – to get pregnant and give birth to a second child.

Once she called her “husband for an hour” – to hang a chandelier. He unexpectedly turned out to be charming and quite suitable (as it seemed to her then) candidate for a life partner.

“Now, looking back, I understand that when he came to my house on a call, he immediately realized that I didn’t live in poverty, that I had money, a car, etc.,” says Irina. – He said that “husband for an hour” is only his hobby, and he is an entrepreneur. We developed a close relationship, sometimes he spent the night with me. I even thought that we would get married, he seemed to me suitable for the role of a man with whom I would like to connect my life. And even my daughter liked him, although she is very distrustful of people.

I had one and a half million rubles in my account, and once he borrowed 100 thousand from me. First, once, then again and again – as he said, to buy goods here from us, where it is cheaper, in order to later sell them at a higher price in the North and earn money. In order to give him the money he asked me for, I borrowed sums from friends, took a loan from a bank … Thus, during the year of our relationship, he “extorted” 1 million 800 thousand rubles from me. He did not return anything, although he promised. Many valuable things disappeared from my apartment, he took them out gradually … After a while, he began to let go of his hands. At the same time, he intimidated me that in the 90s he was a bandit, almost the leader of a criminal group. He could hit my face on the steering wheel of my own car, he could block the car doors and say that I would walk in the cold … I began to be afraid of him, and I understood that I needed to part with him. But one day he just stopped talking. My mother pulled me out of the debt hole, I am very grateful to her for this. Now I think, thank God, that the Lord did not give me a child from such a scoundrel.

I have a receipt from him that he undertakes to return the money to me. After he disappeared, I tried to initiate two criminal cases against him. But they refused me, they said like “you can’t be so gullible.” I generally agree with them, how could I be such a fool?

“MK” got acquainted with the decision to refuse to initiate a criminal case against Irina’s statement (the “MK” has a copy – Auth.): the refusal is based on the fact that the applicant transferred the money “voluntarily”. And besides this, as the police officer wrote in this document, they could not interview this citizen, since “no one was found” at the address indicated in the application, and no one answered the phones.

“Recently, I accidentally met him on the street with another woman,” Irina continues. – I began to tell him everything that I think about him, this woman made round eyes … She was well dressed, and I thought – here she is, his new victim! This is a swindler and a thief who must be held accountable. But the police do not want to help me and will not. In Russia, we do not like the affairs of gigolos, they say that the woman herself is to blame. And it turns out – go for a walk, Vasya, swindle another woman and live wonderfully …

All this time, Irina has worked and continues to work as a nanny and a governess in families with children, including those with disabilities, and she is also a volunteer animal rights activist. Her earnings are modest, and the loss of money taken by her “life partner” is very sensitive for her. But Irina says: even if she lost her money, she put up with it a long time ago. But she wanted to warn other women.

Stalin’s lawyer Gurevich commented on this situation to MK:

– The difference between fraud and civil law relations is in intent. It is obvious that, while receiving money from the heroine of the article, the man did not intend to give it back, that is, he took possession of her money through a breach of trust. Of course, there is evidence of a crime under Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud, that is, theft of someone else’s property or the acquisition of the right to someone else’s property by deceit or breach of trust”), and the refusal to initiate a criminal case was made unlawfully.

Sometimes it seems that the task of the police is not to stop crimes, but, on the contrary, to create all the conditions for criminals to commit crimes. To fight this, in my opinion, there is only one method: tough responsibility, up to criminal liability for unlawful issuance of decisions to refuse to initiate a criminal case. Because it follows from them that the police officer is either legally illiterate or deliberately conceals the crime. In the first case, he has no place in the police, in the second – a place in prison.
