Hunter Biden sued the American Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for disclosing personal data. Associated Press reports.

The son of a sitting US president claims two agents who claimed to have interfered in the case against him improperly shared his personal tax information, as legal and political battles escalate ahead of the 2024 election.

The suit says IRS agents “targeted Mr. Biden and sought to embarrass him.” As part of the investigation, information was disclosed for specific tax years. While the lawsuit does not challenge the investigation itself, it seeks to “enforce federal tax and privacy laws” and demand a stop to the spread of “unfounded allegations” and “illegal disclosures” of tax information.

“With the 2024 elections approaching, the case could move into high-stakes litigation,” the newspaper notes.

The AP notes that the lawsuit comes as the long-running investigation into Hunter Biden continues to unfold amid the impeachment probe of his father, President Joe Biden.

On September 14, Hunter Biden had his presented federal firearms charges. Investigators say he lied about his drug use to buy a gun in October 2018. His lawyers said they plan to fight the charges.

On September 12, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said that Republicans had “uncovered serious and credible allegations” against US President Joe Biden that will serve as the basis for an impeachment inquiry. According to him, the president repeatedly participated in negotiations that resulted in millions of dollars being received by his son and his son’s business partners.
