Hungary urged to lift EU sanctions against a number of Russians

The Hungarian authorities called for the lifting of sanctions against some Russians imposed under the ninth round of EU sanctions.
According to Politico, Budapest asked nine Russian citizens to be removed from the sanctions list. It is understood that individual restrictions must be regularly extended, but this requires the unanimous approval of all EU member states.
It is noted that during the meeting of the ambassadors of the EU countries, the representative of Poland, with the support of colleagues from the Baltic republics, protested the initiative of Hungary.
At the same time, it is not known whether Budapest will try to sabotage the adoption of the tenth package of anti-Russian sanctions. Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that within the framework of the tenth package, the EU intends to hit the “loopholes” that allow Russia to circumvent sanctions.
