Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that Budapest will not approve the 12th package of EU anti-Russian sanctions if the gas, oil and nuclear sectors of the Russian industry are included in it. In an interview with RIA Novosti, he said that the sanctions policy against Russia “simply does not work” and causes “great harm to the European economy.”
“The red line for us obviously concerns energy, gas, oil, nuclear energy,” Szijjarto said.
As for personal sanctions, he said, if one of the Russians “did something good for Hungary,” then Budapest sees no point in extending restrictions to these people. Szijjártó noted that Hungary did not allow Russian Deputy Prime Minister Manturov to be included in the sanctions list because “he helped save the lives of Hungarians during a health emergency.”
