Hungary introduced a ban on the import of 24 types of agricultural products from Ukraine

Hungary has introduced a ban on the import of 24 types of agricultural products from Ukraine, reported Hungarian Minister of Agriculture Istvan Nagy on his Facebook page (belongs to Meta – recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

“The decision was made in Brussels: the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain will not be extended. Hungary is closing its borders to 24 Ukrainian goods,” the minister wrote. He noted that the authorities protect the interests of farmers.

Slovakia will also extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain, the Markiza TV channel reported, citing the Republic’s Ministry of Agriculture.

15 September EC took off restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grain to Eastern European countries. Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the country would extend the ban regardless of the decision of the European Commission.

The intention to extend restrictions was also announced in other countries of Eastern Europe, in particular in Romania and Poland. Poland has already announced about extending the embargo. As Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki noted earlier, the Polish authorities “know very well” that “large international agricultural businesses and oligarchs want to make money at the expense of Polish farmers.”

Restrictions on the transit of Ukrainian grain were introduced in May. This was due to growing protests by farmers in Eastern European countries, whose sales fell amid the supply of cheaper grain from Ukraine. The ban did not apply to the transit and export of grain to other EU countries.
