Hungary demanded a report on the money allocated to Ukraine

Hungary requires a report on spending more than 10 million euros allocated to Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, on Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
“Brussels wants to give another 20 billion euros for the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Serious pressure is expected today in the Foreign Ministry Council in Brussels to approve the proposal, but the position of Hungary remains clear: we are waiting for accountability for more than 10 million euros allocated to Ukraine,” he wrote on his page.
The European Union plans to create a new fund of 20 billion euros to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) during 2024-2028. The initiative implies that the EU will not directly pay for weapons for Ukraine. Instead, the funds of the fund will be spent on covering the expenses of states that will purchase and transfer weapons to Kyiv. Money from the fund will also go to the training of Ukrainian soldiers.
The EU uses the European Peace Fund for the supply of weapons to Ukraine, with a total volume of 5.69 billion euros. Hungary had previously opposed this. On July 19, Szijjártó said that Budapest would not approve the use of funds from this fund to finance arms supplies to Ukraine until the largest Hungarian bank OTP was removed from the Ukrainian list of “international war sponsors.”
Hungary has repeatedly declared the failure of EU sanctions against Russia, and country officials called on the EU to stop taking steps that lead to an escalation of the Ukrainian conflict. Szijjártó has already warned that the country plans to block EU military aid to Ukraine until sanctions on OTP Bank are lifted.
