Peace in Ukraine can be achieved by sitting down at the negotiating table. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, in Minsk on the sidelines of the high-level international conference on Eurasian security.
“We Hungarians want peace. And we know that peace negotiations will lead to peace. And we know very well that security will be achieved when we can again sit down at the negotiating table and talk safely with each other,” Szijjártó explained.
The minister recalled that Hungary is a neighbor of Ukraine and accepted more than 1 million Ukrainian refugees. In addition, the Hungarian national minority lives in Ukraine, and that these and all other people stop dying, it is necessary to finish the fighting.
“Therefore, we will always save the communication channels, because if we close them, we will refuse to hope for the world. Therefore, I appreciate the fact that we were able to talk about security and Eurasian cooperation here today. I sincerely hope that the time will come when Eurasian cooperation will again become a reality, ”Siyyarto summed up.
On October 18, during negotiations with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that Moscow is ready for negotiations, but recalled that in Ukraine there is a decree of the country’s President Vladimir Zelensky prohibiting negotiations with Moscow. In this regard, the Russian president noted that if Kiev wants a negotiation process, it is necessary not to limit itself to “some theatrical gestures,” but first of all to cancel the decree prohibiting negotiations. Putin also noted that some people in the Ukrainian leadership, who had recently called for a “strategic defeat” of Russia, are now talking about negotiations.
