HSE student detained in the case of Navalny’s headquarters was transferred to a pre-trial detention center

In Moscow, 21-year-old Higher School of Economics student Alina Olekhnovich and 22-year-old university graduate Ivan Trofimov were transferred from house arrest to a pre-trial detention center as part of a criminal investigation into participation in an extremist organization (the headquarters of oppositionist Alexei Navalny).
Today, September 20, Basmanny Court of Moscow satisfied petition from the investigation to extend the period of arrest of the defendants in the case. “The court extended Olekhnovich and Trofimov’s preventive measure in the form of detention until December 24,” reports TASS with reference to the press service of the court.
Alina Olekhnovich and Ivan Trofimov were detained on July 26. The next day, the Basmanny court sent them under house arrest. On August 9, the Moscow City Court overturned the decision on house arrest and transferred the girl and young man to a pre-trial detention center, it follows from cards addressed to Alina Olehovich on the court website.
The criminal case is being investigated under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of an organization in respect of which the court has decided to liquidate it in connection with the implementation of extremist activities). According to investigators, Alina Olekhnovich and Ivan Trofimov are associated with the network of Alexei Navalny’s headquarters (Alexey Navalny’s headquarters are recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and are banned), which “is engaged in subversive activities on the territory of the Russian Federation.” Sanction under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 – up to six years in prison.
