The closing ceremony took place at the Ice Palace of Sports. Thus, the 88th Northern Holiday and the 63rd Northern Students’ Holiday came to an end. The ceremony was attended by the head of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis. This was reported in the press service of the regional Ministry of Information Policy.
The Governor noted that the Polar Olympics each year brings together thousands of people and is a real celebration of friendship. According to him, more than 1,800 athletes from 300 cities and 60 regions of our country took part in the Murmansk Ski Marathon alone.
Traditionally, at the closing ceremony, there was a parade of sports that were presented in the competitive program. Among them: hockey, skiing, figure skating, snowboarding, biathlon, rugby in the snow and others.
The head of the region noted the high level of training of athletes and competitions. He also expressed his hope that the traditions of the Polar Olympics will be multiplied, noting the contribution of coaches and mentors to athletes.
Also during the ceremony, Andrei Chibis, on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Physical Culture of the Russian Federation by the highest category coach Vladimir Shein.
Cups of absolute champions were awarded to the winners of the Murmansk Ski Marathon Andrey Zarodov and Ekaterina Buryanina. Two more cups for victory in national sports were received by Nikolai and Tatyana Yurievs.
After the solemn part, the guests were treated to a concert program and the symbolic extinguishing of the fire of the Polar Olympics.
