How Crimea is preparing for the Year of Sports

At the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin, 2024 in our country will be declared the Year of Sports. As Olga Torubarova, Minister of Sports of the Republic of Crimea, notes, this will contribute to the development of professional sports and the popularization of physical culture in society.
“As part of the development of professional sports, there will be support for athletes of the highest achievements,” notes Olga Torubarova. – Including access to international arenas, which are an alternative to the Olympic Games, which, due to today’s unfair sanctions policy against our country, have ceased to be accessible.
As for the popularization of mass sports, according to the head of the Crimean Ministry of Sports, it is directly related to the national security and health of our nation.
“People who systematically engage in physical education improve their health and prolong their lives,” says Olga Torubarova. – The target indicators that the president sets for each subject within the framework of the national project “Sport is the norm of life” are the achievement of such an indicator when 85% of the population of all ages and categories would be involved in systematic physical education and sports.
While at the level of state policy the vector for the development of sports and physical education is outlined, at the international level, due to the lack of access to competitions for Russian athletes, interest in synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating, hockey and even football is decreasing.
“Until double standards in relation to our athletes are eradicated, this will be the result,” Sergei Borodkin, president of the Crimean Football Union, is convinced. – But sport remains. Our athletes show excellent results, we can clearly see that without our athletes, the competitions that are taking place today have a completely different look and status, among other things.
As good news for fans of Crimean football teams, Sergei Borodkin officially announces the continuation of the regional Premier League next year.
“The Premier League of the Crimean Football Union remains the main tournament of our republic,” he says. – At least eight teams will play next year. We have several options for expanding our league: up to 10 or 12 teams. Such options are also being considered.
Turning to the topic of Crimean football, Olga Torubarova clarifies the main source of its financing and notes support at the level of the head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov.
“All funding for the FSC is provided from the federal budget,” she says. – In addition, the head of the republic, Sergei Aksenov, uses personal participation to support teams and find sponsors for them.
An equally important event is the creation, on behalf of the President and Government of the Russian Federation, of a new Commonwealth League to integrate football in new regions.
“It was decided that this league would not include teams from the Crimean Football Union,” notes Olga Torubarova. – Since all the presidents of these clubs, without exception, expressed a unanimous desire to continue the Crimean championship and not enter the Commonwealth League. Since it is not yet possible to hold full-fledged tournaments in new territories, they will be held on the territory of Crimea. Three championships will be presented. Among boys aged 15-17 years old, students from our Olympic Reserve School will be represented. These teams are being formed today and will absolutely be included. There will also be one of the amateur teams, possibly a national team, which will represent Crimea in the new Commonwealth Cup. Already in November it is planned to hold test tournaments in which Crimeans will take part.
In addition to football, significant attention is paid to table tennis in Crimea.
“Table tennis is developing: compared to 2014, it’s just heaven and earth,” says Tatyana Krovyakova, executive director of the Table Tennis Federation of the Republic of Crimea. – The Crimean Championship is taking place, which includes 43 adult teams and more than 46 children’s teams. There are sections in almost every corner of the peninsula. Table tennis is developed in our country; it is a basic sport.
Since, as part of the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, table tennis in our country should become widespread, Olga Torubarova makes an effective proposal to the Crimeans.
“If, during the improvement of courtyard areas, new tennis tables appear on them, I can absolutely say that they will be in demand,” she says. – A huge number of requests come with a request to organize sections for this sport. This can be done through proactive budgeting. I will also remind parents that a racket and ball cost pennies. It is important to have such small paraphernalia at home. This sport will become popular when parents understand its importance and benefits.
