Russian goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov after termination contract with CSKA will join the National Hockey League (NHL) Philadelphia Flyers, reports The Athletic citing a league source. The transition, according to the publication’s interlocutor, will take place before the end of the current season.

The Athletic writes that the official announcement from the Philadelphia Flyers about the transfer of Ivan Fedotov will follow in the coming days after all the details are clarified. An NHL source confirmed to The Athletic that there are no issues or barriers to the goaltender joining the team.

Ivan Fedotov was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers back in 2015. In May 2022, the goalkeeper signed a one-year agreement with the hockey club. However, on July 1st detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading conscription. On July 3, Ivan Fedotov was sent to a military unit in Severodvinsk for military service, and then transferred to the St. Petersburg Naval Academy.

After completing his military service, Ivan Fedotov signed a contract with CSKA, for which he played until the end of the 2021/22 season. At the same time, the Philadelphia Flyers and the NHL management stated that the contract of the American team with the Russian was not terminated, but only frozen, which means that the hockey player did not have the right to sign an agreement with the Russian club. Due to the violation, Ivan Fedotov was disqualified until the end of 2023 by decision of the International Hockey Federation.
