Kazakhstani tennis player Yelena Rybakina became the first Kazakhstani to play in the semi-finals of the Australian Open women’s singles, according to a report. Vesti.kz.
In the 1/4th women’s singles match, her opponent was Elena Ostapenko from Latvia.
In the first set, when Rybakina was leading 3:1, the match was interrupted due to rain. Some time later the game continued and the Kazakhstani brought the game to a confident victory – 6:2. In the second set, she also outplayed her opponent – 6:4.
Note that Rybakina is ranked 25th in the WTA rankings, while Ostapenko is 17th. In the match for reaching the 1/4th, Kazakhstani knocked out the first racket of the world, Iga Sventek from Poland, from the fight.
Rybakina’s opponent in the match for reaching the final will be the winner of the pair Jessica Pegula (USA) – Victoria Azarenka (Belarus).
Rybakina reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the first time in her career. So far, she has won one Grand Slam tournament on her account – in 2022 she won Wimbledon.
