Kommersant FM columnist Alexander Levi talks about how the company is introducing artificial intelligence into the work of medical companies and institutions.

Nvidia announced deals with GE Healthcare and Johnson & Johnson. The essence of the agreements boils down to the use of generative artificial intelligence in the field of surgery, as well as to improve medical imaging.

Previously, Nvidia introduced about 20 AI tools focused on healthcare. The number itself highlights the vendor’s interest in medicine and pharmacology. But even without this, in 2023, the technology corporation invested $50 million in Recursion Pharmaceuticals Inc. AI models are trained on its biological and chemical data. CNBC also points to Nvidia’s even earlier collaboration with the American Roche’s Genentech and Schrodinger in the development of new drugs and treatment protocols.

Artificial intelligence can, for example, speed up the process of creating drugs or find new uses for diseases that they were developed against that have failed. Nvidia shares, let me remind you, have grown by almost 100% since the beginning of 2024. And the events mentioned above are also the reason for this rise. After all, Nvidia doesn’t just provide hardware on which modern technologies can be run, but immediately offers software, ready-made tools, including scenarios that businesses can quickly apply.

NVIDIA’s Clara and BioNeMo cloud platforms, for example, are helping healthcare companies set up and deploy core generative AI models for computational discovery in drug development. According to surveys by auditing firm EY Americas, at the end of 2023, about 41% of healthcare and life sciences executives said they were considering specific ways to use generative AI. At the same time, 7 out of 10 healthcare and wellness employees are worried about the introduction of artificial intelligence in the workplace.
