New realities – new recruiting requests: a fundamentally new vacancy has appeared on a popular online platform, generated by a massive transition to a remote form of work. The capital company is looking for a “deadliner” – an employee who will remind all departments of the deadlines for the delivery of work. The position aroused great interest in the labor market, as it seemed to many that there was nothing easier and more pleasant than pushing others.

No experience as a deadliner is required, although it is a little confusing to require the applicant to have a “strong character”, be able to “look people in the eye”, and also “show impatience when addressing an employee who has one day left before the deadline”. Isn’t this a joke?! I call the number indicated in the ad and get straight to the head of the PR agency, which is looking for an employee of the “new formation”.

“No, it’s not a joke,” the employer Alexander, who posted the vacancy, answers my question. “I just didn’t bother listing why we needed this position in the ad.

– And why?

– We are a young company, and the team is young and very talented. Due to circumstances, many have now switched to a remote form of work. Many guys are now working with us from other time zones. But no one wanted to quit, which I am very happy about. And I don’t want to lose anyone either. I washed my creatives like gold, they are all extremely valuable personnel. We agreed that, no matter where, we will have a working day according to Moscow time, as usual, from 10 am to 7-8 pm, depending on the amount of work. And then a problem arose.

– What is it?

– Flew all the deadlines for the delivery of orders. To remedy the situation, the agency needed a “deadliner” – we have high hopes for it. But I already know that the complete inability to navigate in time is the other side of being gifted. When a person creates, he completely forgets about schedules and deadlines. And the more talented the creative, the more difficult it is to drive him into the deadlines for submitting materials. If a gifted person switches to thinking about the deadline, then the main thing that we hold him for disappears from his work – the flight of thought, fantasy, freedom.

– But why did you decide that your new employee, who has already been nicknamed on the Web “the overseer of the office plantation”, will cope with this, since you can’t scold?!

– It is impossible for a leader – he must be a “good father”, who values ​​in employees, first of all, talent and devotion to our agency. But a special “supervisor” can “cough expressively”, because the team understands that he was hired for this. Therefore, my guys will definitely not be offended by the deadline. In addition, we all have a good sense of humor. Even if he really whistles a funeral march for them, everyone will understand that it’s a deadline, but it will not be a formidable bossy shout, from which inspiration, no matter how it happened.

– And how will the deadliner “look into the eyes” if your team is scattered all over the world?

– He will be in the Moscow office full-time in constant online communication with the entire team. The deadliner will communicate both with each employee individually and in the format of a general meeting. Moreover, a window with a deadline must be constantly active on the monitor of each of our employees – this is our condition. If he is silent in the corner of the screen, then there is still time. But as soon as he starts to appear from there, it means that you need to click on this window, and he will tell you how much time this employee has left before the deadline. Well, at general meetings, he will also sum up: who did well, managed on time, and who delayed the entire project. They all work together, so this is very important. That is why a successful candidate for the position of a deadline must have a strong character, be able and willing to administer, but at the same time – find an approach to creative people. And he must gain authority in our team.
