Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that it is not yet known who will head the National Center for Historical Memory, the need to create which was said yesterday, September 5, by President Vladimir Putin.

“It is not yet known for sure. But the proposal was about the fact that this center was created on the basis of the museum (Museum of Victory.— “b”). And it is still unknown who will be in charge,” said Mr. Peskov, answering a question about who will head the center.

In November 2022, Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova announced plans to create a pilot project of the National Center for Historical Memory on the basis of the Victory Museum. On site The Ministry of Culture says that the content basis of the center, in particular, will be the museum’s database of the participants of the Great Patriotic War “Faces of Victory”, large-scale exhibitions “Feat of the People” and an open-air exposition of military equipment.

Yesterday, Vladimir Putin, during a meeting of the Russian organizing committee Pobeda, said that the country needs a National Center for Historical Memory. During the meeting, Alexei Shkolnik, director of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, suggested that the president instruct the administration of the head of state to act as the founder of the center.
