The head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, said that the decision to restore the city of Maryinka, which recently came under the control of the Russian army, will be made later. According to him, now the settlement is badly destroyed, but in the future it will be restored.

“I believe that we will make a decision on the restoration of Marinka a little later. With a high degree of probability this decision will be positive. Although now this settlement practically does not exist, it is also wrong to say that there is no need for development there in the future. This is a continuation of Donetsk, we perceived it this way and will move forward with this approach,” Mr. Pushilin told reporters (quoted by TASS).

He also emphasized that the capture of Marinka by the Russian military will help “several regions of Donetsk breathe easy.” “Everything is relative, of course, but for the Kirov and Petrovsky districts this is an opportunity to take on less enemy shells, which have been coming all these nine years from the direction of Maryinka; this was one of the enemy’s most fortified points,” added the head of the DPR.

On December 25, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg reportedthat Marinka came under the control of the Russian armed forces. According to him, in nine years the Armed Forces of Ukraine “have turned Marinka into a powerful fortified area with underground passages on every street.” Mr. Putin noted that the capture of Marinka gives the Russian army the opportunity to “enter operational space.” The day before, December 26, information about the transfer of Marinka to the control of the Russian army confirmed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.
