Head of the Defense Committee of the State Duma Kartapolov: bill to raise the draft age will be adopted in the spring session

Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Committee on Defense, expects that the draft law on raising the draft age will be considered and adopted by the State Duma in the spring session. He clarified that if approved by parliamentarians, the document will enter into force on January 1, 2024.
He stressed that conscription for military service in Russia in 2022 will take place according to the previous rules. This, according to him, is both about the spring and autumn conscription into the Russian army.
“This year is needed for the military commissariats to clarify the composition of their conscription resource, clarify the lists, invite potential conscripts and verify their data. They can do this, and, in our opinion, they should do it,” said Mr. Kartapolov (quoted from TASS).
In an interview RBC-TV the politician added that the adoption of the bill would have a positive impact on the quality of staffing. Mr. Kartapolov believes that there will be an “improvement in the quality of conscripts”, as “adults who are more prepared for military service” will begin to come to the army
Bill to raise the draft age introduced for consideration by the Duma, its authors were Andrey Kartapolov, as well as two deputy chairman of the defense committee – Andrey Krasov and Yuri Shvytkin. According to the draft law, in the period from January 1 to December 31, 2024, citizens aged 19 to 30 years old will be subject to conscription, from January 1 to December 31, 2025 – from 20 to 30 years old, from January 1, 2026 – from 21 to 30 years old.
