HC Sochi suffered its third defeat in a row in the New Year

The Sochi hockey players lost to the local Severstal in Cherepovets and extended their losing streak this season to 12 matches. This time the “steelworkers” were stronger than the “leopards” with a score of 3:0.

In the first period, the teams fought more for the center of the ice rather than threatening each other’s goals. The second period was a continuation of the first, with the only difference being that at the end, the Cherepovets were still able to punish the Sochi team for sending off. The puck was scored by Severstal’s best sniper Kirill Pilipenko. In the third twenty-minute period, the “southerners” tried to come up with at least a semblance of dangerous moments at the hosts’ goal, but they succeeded with great difficulty. But the “steelworkers” did not miss their one more chance. In the middle of the last period of the meeting, Mikhail Ilyin added to his goal tally. At the end of the period, the leopards replaced the goalkeeper with a sixth field player, but only got their third goal.

Another loss did not allow the team from the Olympic capital to somehow push off from the bottom of the standings of the Western Conference of the KHL. HC Sochi still remained in 11th place.

The Sochi team will play their next match two days later, on January 9, in Moscow against Dynamo.
