A spokesman for Hamas’s militant wing said the group was willing to release 50 to 70 Israeli hostages – women and children – in exchange for a ceasefire.
According to the statement, the militants are counting on a 5-day truce. Also, as part of the exchange, they demand the release of 200 Palestinian children and 75 women from Israeli prisons.
Earlier on Monday, the Israel Defense Forces said that “Hamas has lost control of the Gaza Strip.”
According to IDF estimates, before the militant attack on Israel on October 7, Hamas had about 30,000 fighters at its disposal in five brigades. It is reported that each brigade had teams of snipers and engineers, an anti-tank squad, air defense and missile launch teams, and also had fortified areas.
