Hamas highly appreciated Russia’s position on the US resolution in the UN Security Council

The Palestinian group Hamas praised the position of Russia and China for using the veto power when voting in the UN Security Council on a draft US resolution on the conflict in the Middle East. should from a statement by the head of the group’s Politburo, Ismail Haniya, on the Telegram channel.

“The head of the Politburo highly appreciates the position of Russia and China in the Security Council and their disruption of the American occupation-oriented resolution,” the report said.

Haniyeh also expressed gratitude to countries that “have called for an end to the aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza.” He called on the international community to “oblige the occupiers to respect human rights standards.”

Russia and China at the UN Security Council meeting on October 25 imposed veto of the American draft resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The UAE also opposed it. Ten countries supported the document, two delegations abstained from voting.

Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Vasily Nebenzya noted, that the US draft is “saturated with politicized, inappropriate and highly questionable provisions.” The UN explained that the US version emphasizes the right of any country to self-defense. It also proposes to declare “humanitarian pauses.” As the UN clarified, the American version does not contain a call for a ceasefire.

Also, the Russian version of the resolution was not adopted at the Security Council meeting. According to Nebenzi, it is compiled on the basis of “proven humanities language and has absorbed the most useful elements from the American, Brazilian and first Russian projects.” Moscow’s version was supported by four countries, and two voted against. A further nine delegations abstained from voting.

First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky notedthat the UAE, the only representative of Arab states in the UN Security Council, voted against the American project and for the Russian one. In his opinion, this indicates “whose project is actually aimed at establishing peace in the region.”
