Hamas has announced its most significant loss of cultural heritage in the Gaza Strip. According to the movement, as a result of Israeli strikes, the Great Mosque of Omar, built more than one and a half thousand years ago, was destroyed. This was reported by Al Ghad TV channel.

Reuters cites the reaction of residents who have lived next to the Muslim shrine for a long time. For example, 45-year-old tailor Ahmed Nemer called the destruction of the mosque an attempt to erase Palestinian memories.
