“Football on Red Square”
On December 5, in Moscow, at one of the sites of the book fair in Gostiny Dvor, a presentation of the book “Football on Red Square” by the first deputy editor-in-chief of MK, Pyotr Spektor, took place. On the last day of the fair, when, it would seem, the attention of the public should have faded, the hall where the book was presented turned out to be packed, and several people did not even fit in, including two girls with enthusiasm frozen in their eyes. Why is that? The answer is simple. Our colleague Petr Spektor, who came to MK when the author of this note was not yet born, and who, according to Pavel Gusev, did not miss a single significant world sporting event for several decades, managed to gather great world stars in one place. Legendary hockey players and coaches Vyacheslav Fetisov and Alexander Yakushev, the famous goalkeeper and coach Stanislav Cherchesov at the same table with the editor-in-chief of MK Gusev spent 45 minutes, that is, one full half.
To be honest, the presentation looked more like a meeting of good friends, the only thing that was embarrassing was water bottles, not glasses of Caucasian wines. Cherchesov drew attention to this. He praised the cover, where Joseph Stalin holds a soccer ball on his index finger:
– The correct image of my fellow countryman. I think the book will be a hit with the cover.
And he immediately got down to business, offering to read the work of his comrade and meet again, this time in a less working environment:
“We will get together and discuss step by step. Each chapter will end with a toast. How many chapters do we have? Thirty nine! There will be thirty-nine toasts.
“In 1984 I came to Moscow, and Moskovsky Komsomolets is one of the first newspapers that wrote about me; since then, for 36 years, we have been walking hand in hand,” Stanislav Salamovich shared his memories.
The greatest hockey player and coach of the Russian national team Alexander Yakushev said:
– I subscribed to MK for decades. Read about all facets of life. And with particular pleasure – when Spector began to write about sports.
And Vyacheslav Fetisov, when he took the floor, frankly stated:
Sports journalism is a special genre. You need to be able to describe everything in detail and not offend people. Today there is so much “yellowness” in sports that you do not have time to dodge. And the main task of a journalist is to create images of heroes, to create examples for young people and children. And Spector is one of those who at one time was properly brought up, he had the right teachers.
The book “Football on Red Square” tells how much sport occupied in the life of the leader of all times and peoples and other top officials of the USSR – and this is only one small part of it. Petr Markovich was able to prove how much sport means in the biographies of Yuri Gagarin, scout Abel, Victory standard-bearer Meliton Kantaria, Vladimir Vysotsky, Andrei Mironov, Lavrenty Beria and many, many others. Who, if not a sports columnist with veteran experience, will talk in a friendly way about Streltsov, Kharlamov, Yashin, Vladislav Tretyak and Anatoly Karpov? All of them, as well as Fetisov, Yakushev and Cherchesov, made up one team in the book space. Because for millions of people, domestic athletes did a common super-important thing, and not just competed for medals and cups.
