Hackers began to carry out “carpet” attacks on Russian banks

Since the beginning of 2024, hackers have changed their tactics of attacking Russian banks. According to Daniil Bobryshev, head of development of network and IT infrastructure protection products from Servicepipe, attackers began to carry out so-called “carpet attacks”. They simultaneously attack all the resources of credit institutions, and do not go through them one by one, as was the case before.

In addition, hackers began to look for the most vulnerable Internet services of banks, such as VPN entry points or remote maintenance services, and direct the bulk of their attacks to them. Previously, attackers simply went through all the services in a row and directed an attack on one of them.

Let us recall that in November last year, Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia German Zubarev noted that cyber attacks on banks are a new reality, and we will have to live for a long time in conditions of increased risks of cyber attacks. At the beginning of 2024, a ransomware virus attack was also recorded on the IT systems of companies in different countries.
