Guterres accused Russia without evidence of extrajudicial killings in Ukraine

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made accusations against Russia at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, saying there were “extrajudicial killings,” RIA Novosti reports.
However, the UN Secretary General did not voice any evidence. According to him, the evidence “was documented.”
As Guterres stated, this refers to “human rights violations, including conflict-related sexual violence, arbitrary detention, extrajudicial killings.” According to him, the “evidence” mainly concerns Russia. He also mentioned the “forced transfer of Ukrainian civilians, including children,” to Russian-controlled regions, as well as to Russian territory. At the same time, he did not comment on the numerous video footage of reprisals and torture of Russian prisoners by the Ukrainian military.
Guterres’ statements do not align with the report of the UNHRC Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, which reported war crimes by Ukrainian nationalists against captured Russian soldiers. The UN mission reported at least 25 cases of reprisals against military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces, while, as noted by the head of the UN OHCHR, Volker Türk, those responsible for the reprisals did not suffer any punishment.
