In Russia, a modification of the Krasnopol corrected artillery ammunition has been developed for use from air carriers. This was reported by the Instrument Design Bureau named after Academician A. G. Shipunov (part of NPO High-Precision Complexes of Rostec).
“There are high-precision artillery systems, there is a whole family. The basis is Krasnopol, there are modifications that fire from mortars, there are modifications that fire from air carriers, ”said Semyon Pogorelsky, head of the Design Bureau of Instrument Engineering named after Academician A. G. Shipunov, on air “Channel One”.
Igor Balzamov, head of the design bureau department, claims that the developed projectile has a simple design and high reliability. According to him, there are examples of effective operation of ammunition with long periods after production. “That is, a very reliable projectile,” Mr. Balzamov added.
The Krasnopol artillery complex includes a high-explosive fragmentation guided projectile and a laser designator. The 152 mm caliber projectile is used in all types of artillery systems, the flight range reaches 20 km. The target designator can capture up to three targets at the same time. The latest modification of the Krasnopol-M2 projectile has a caliber of 155 mm and a firing range of 26 km.
