Refugee children in the UK have ended up in a prison where rapists are being held, according to the Guardian newspaper. According to the publication, these unaccompanied children entered the UK, mainly passing through Libya from Sudan or South Sudan. Many of them appear to have been victims of human trafficking.

The children were sent to Elmley Prison in Kent, where they are being held with adult sex offenders.

According to the Humans for Rights Network, 14 such children have so far been identified and sent to Elmley Prison, with one of them spending 7 months there, despite being 14 years old.

The head of the organization, Maddy Harris, said that minors are isolated in cells and do not know where to look for help. They do not have access to proper legal support and cannot challenge the decision of the immigration service.

According to the newspaper, the UK Home Office made mistakes in classifying hundreds of refugee children as adults, which led to their placement in adult immigrant detention centers.
