Greek PM Asks President Sakellaropoulou to Dissolve Parliament

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis asked the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, to dissolve parliament and schedule elections for May 21 this year. About it informed TV channel ERT.
“I convey to you the decision of the Council of Ministers requesting the dissolution of parliament and the appointment of national elections for May 21, four weeks from now. This is provided for by the constitution,” said the prime minister (quote according to RIA Novosti).
The President supported Mitsotakis, in the second half of the day a corresponding decree will be issued, follows from the message of the channel. After that, the parliament will be dissolved and preparations for the upcoming elections will begin.
Rossiyskaya Gazeta March 22 wrotethat the powers of the current Greek government expire in July, but Mitsotakis announced early parliamentary elections.
Mitsotakis has been the Prime Minister of Greece since the summer of 2019, and since January 2016 the President of the conservative opposition party New Democracy, after 39.8% of voters voted for her in the July 2019 elections to the Greek Parliament, and the ruling prior to this, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s coalition of radical left “Syriza” received only 31.5% of the vote.
