Great Britain obliges Russian diplomats to notify about traveling within the country

London has obliged Russian diplomats working in the country to notify the authorities about trips around the kingdom. This is stated in answer member of the House of Commons, British Deputy Foreign Secretary Leo Docherty, to a question from one of the MPs from the Labor Party, published on the parliament website. Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry put forward similar demands to British diplomats.
“In response to Russia’s decision to introduce travel notification requirements for British diplomats in Russia, we have introduced corresponding reciprocal travel notification requirements for Russian diplomats accredited to the Russian Embassy in London and the Consulate General in Edinburgh,” he said in a statement.
The move is consistent with the concept of reciprocity enshrined in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, Docherty added.

The Foreign Office noted at the time that British diplomats must provide at least five working days’ notice for travel outside the 120-kilometer free movement zone. The notification must contain information about the timing, purpose, type of trip, planned business contacts, accompanying persons, type of transport, etc. Restrictions do not affect the ambassador, minister-counselor and head of the consular department.
