Governors may be allowed to initiate anti-corruption checks against subordinates

The Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation proposes to give governors the authority to conduct anti-corruption checks in relation to civil servants or persons applying for municipal positions. In addition, it is proposed to prescribe the possibility for the heads of regions to send requests to federal executive bodies authorized to conduct operational-search activities against municipal and regional officials. Changes can be made to the law “On Combating Corruption”.
The initiative on August 1 was supported by the government commission on legislative activity. Vedomosti got acquainted with the text of the project documentation. The project was agreed with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the FSB and the Prosecutor General’s Office, which agreed it with the comments. The bill will soon be submitted to the State Duma for consideration.
