Governor of the Kurgan region Vadim Shumkov called on employees of the Kurgan administration and rescuers to evacuate citizens living on the right bank of the Tobol River. Its water level continues to rise due to discharges from the Karatomar reservoir in Kazakhstan. The head of the region announced this at a speech to employees of the Kurgan mayor’s office, the Department of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Vadim Shumkov also noted that as of April 4, an agreement was in force with Kazakhstan, under which the volume of discharge should not exceed 70 cubic meters per second. However, on April 5 the figure was 3,300 cubic meters. “The mirror of water that moves towards Kurgan, it, unfortunately, is constantly replenished,” warns governor.

The head of the region said that in the village of Zverinogolovskoye the water level in the Tobol River exceeded ten meters, but in Kurgan it is still below four. Vadim Shumkov called on rescuers to line up and move along the right side of the Tobol River, passing all the houses and evacuating residents.
