Government extends export quotas for mineral fertilizers until December

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved the extension of quotas for the export of mineral fertilizers from the Russian Federation. Quotas will be valid from June 1 to November 30. The total volume of the export quota will be more than 16.3 million tons.

The government said the decision was “aimed at maintaining sufficient volumes of fertilizers in the domestic market.” The Ministry of Industry and Trade will distribute the volume among exporters. Quotas will not apply to the supply of fertilizers to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, specified in press release government.

Quotas were established in December 2022, their effect was calculated from January 1 to May 31, 2023. Now their volume is 12.6 million tons. The authorities hoped that this measure would allow mineral fertilizer producers to export unclaimed finished product residues.

At the end of 2022, prices for the main types of fertilizers corrected against the backdrop of a recovery in their production in Europe and may continue to decline in 2023. At the same time, Russian producers also hope to restore deliveries to Europe, whose exports have fallen, according to various estimates, by 10-15%.
