Google will delete inactive accounts – Kommersant

American corporation Google informedthat is going to delete user accounts that have been inactive for two or more years. According to representatives of the platform, this will help protect users from security threats.

The company plans to begin deleting inactive accounts in December 2023. Prior to this, users will be sent repeated notifications of the upcoming removal, and the process itself will occur in stages. Only personal accounts will be deleted; organization profiles will not be deleted.

Among the first, those accounts that were created and never visited by users will be deleted. Google found that older accounts often lack two-factor authentication and use insecure passwords that users may have used for other accounts as well. In 2020, Google already announced that it was going to erase the data of inactive accounts, but the company did not touch the accounts themselves. To save your account, you will need to sign in to it or to one of the Google services.
