Google improves Chrome security without compromising user privacy

American corporation Google added Improved protection against unsafe sites in the Chrome browser – available in real time in Chrome’s Safe Browsing mode. According to the company, they managed to do this in such a way that user privacy was not violated.

Before the current innovation, Google checked open tabs every 30-60 minutes with a list of dangerous sites stored on the device, but modern scam sites appear and disappear much faster, so this method did not provide full protection. Safe Browsing enabled the reconciliation to be much faster, but it required sensitive user data to be sent to Google, so this feature was not enabled by default.

Now, using a special API, Google has solved the problem of privacy violations: it hides the addresses of visited sites from Google and allows you to respond to threats in real time. The company believes that the innovation will make it possible to block phishing attempts by a quarter more effectively. The new feature is already available in the desktop version of Chrome and on iOS, and will reach Android by the end of March.
