American corporation Google presented a new top-level domain .meme, which can be registered for sites with funny pictures and memes. The company said the new domain will help users spread ideas and express themselves.
Google submitted an application to launch the domain in 2013; registration of new .meme domains will open on December 5, after which it will be possible to buy domain names. It will be possible to buy names from third-party registrars – for example, on GoDaddy the price for the video.meme domain starts at $1,689 per year, and for michael.meme – $496 per year. In 2023, Google has already launched top-level domains such as .dad, .foo, .esq, .phd, .prof, .zip, .mov and .nexus, and also offered addresses in the .ing zone.
