Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that in Russia women on average give birth to their first child at 26 years old, but the optimal age for this, in her opinion, is 24 years old. At the marathon “Knowledge. First” at the World Youth Festival, she noted that the ideal age to start a family is considered to be from 18 to 24 years old, but emphasized that this is very individual.

According to data, in other countries the average age of birth of children is 31 years, which makes Russia the leader in this indicator. At the same time, studies show different points of view on the optimal age for the first birth: from 21 to 25 years old according to 55% of Russians and from 26 to 30 years old according to every fourth respondent.

Rosstat data for 2018–2022 showed that the average age of women at the birth of their first child was 26.75 years, the second – about 30 years, and the third – 33.1 years.
