‘Godfather of AI’ leaves Google and warns of impending danger

Artificial intelligence godfather Geoffrey Hinton left Google due to ethical issues with neural networks. About it informs The New York Times.
Hinton decided to step down as a vice president of Google in order to openly warn the public about the risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence. Until that moment, he had not criticized Google and other companies.
“I console myself with the usual excuse: if I hadn’t done it, someone else would have done it,” Hinton said.
According to Hinton, generative AI can help spread misinformation. “Perhaps you will no longer be able to know what is true,” the scientist emphasized.
Concerns about AI are associated with the rapid growth of neural networks like ChatGPT. Large companies use language models in their projects – for example, the Bard chatbot from Google or the new Bing search engine from MicrosoftAn that returns a response to a query based on various sources.
After OpenAI introduced ChatGPT based on the new GPT-4 language model, more than a thousand IT leaders signed an open letter calling for a moratorium on the development of AI systems within six months. Among the signatories of the letter were the founder of OpenAI, Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and other entrepreneurs.
In 2012, Hinton and two graduate students in Toronto created the technology that formed the basis of artificial intelligence, earning him the pseudonym of “the godfather of AI.” He has worked at Google for over 10 years.
