In May 2023, the Ice Hockey World Championship was held in Finland and Latvia. Traditionally, the Slovakian team played in it, which is considered a strong middle peasant capable of surprising the hockey community. In 2021 and 2022, goalkeeper Adam Guska, who played for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the 2022-2023 season, defended the gates of the Slovakian national team. For the choice in favor of the Russian club, Adam did not receive a call to the national team of Slovakia for the World Championship.
The goalkeeper of the Nizhny Novgorod “Torpedo” commented on the decision of the FHS.
“It won’t solve anything. Will I play in the KHL or not, it’s nothing [в мире] will not change,” the Slovak portal sme.sk quotes Huska Sport.cz as saying.
Last season, 8 more Slovak hockey players played in the KHL, who did not receive a call-up to the national team.
