“Glory was so charged”: Safronov about the main desire of the late Zaitsev

“I understood that this was one of our last meetings”

The sudden death of Vyacheslav Zaitsev shocked his star friends. Mourns over the departure of fashion designer and artist Nikas Safronov. The painter has been friends with the fashion designer for more than thirty years. Nikas told MK correspondents about his last meeting with Zaitsev, as well as how he charged in the last years of his life.

– It is impossible to believe that Glory is no more, – Nikas sighs. “He is a real legend, recognized all over the world. In the 80s I went to Italy, and everyone there knew Slava. He was an extraordinary, very warm person. We have been friends for over thirty years.

– Our last meeting with Slava took place a couple of weeks ago. Then I was indignant that Zaitsev’s friends were not invited to his 85th birthday – celebrities who wanted to congratulate him, but simply did not know where he would celebrate. I think this is wrong. Zaitsev’s assistants found out about my dissatisfaction and invited me to another meeting with Slava.

– How did Vyacheslav Mikhailovich meet you?

– He was in a great mood. He had a clear mind: he understood everything. He immediately recognized me: he wanted to get up to greet me. But I didn’t allow it. I hugged him myself. He ordered his assistants to give me two of his books. He himself could not sign them. Dictated a wish in a whisper. His assistant wrote, and after that he himself signed. Of course, I understood that this was one of our last meetings.

– I know that many were against the fact that he was taken out to people in such a state …

– Yes. And son Yegor, as far as I know, was also against it. In fact, he liked parties. At such moments, he felt needed, needed. No one forced him to go out into the world. It was his main desire – to be needed. People at this age begin to act up: if they don’t want something, you can’t force them. And Slava liked to be the center of attention. Everyone adored him! During his appearances, he was charged with the energy of love from his many fans. And it extended his life!

– Do you think that after the departure of Zaitsev, his entourage will be able to reconcile?

– Of course, I would like to. But I think it will only get worse. The division of the inheritance will begin, finding out who was “closer to the body.” Naturally, during his life he was able to accumulate a good fortune, which they will now begin to divide. In my opinion, everything should go to the son.
