Globo: supporters of the ex-president of Brazil invaded the building of the Congress

Supporters of the former President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, protesting against the results of the elections in the country, invaded the Congress building, the Federal Supreme Court and the working residence of the head of state – the Planalto Palace, the Brazilian Globo reported.

The police tried to contain the protesters, including with the help of gas and stun grenades, but Bolsonaro’s supporters were able to invade the containment zone. The protesters were able to get into the Federal Supreme Court by breaking the facade.

Brazilian Minister of Justice and Public Security Flavio Dino declared the absurdity of the anti-democratic actions of Bolsonaro’s supporters and stressed that “an attempt to impose will by force will not prevail.”

December 15 RIA Novosti with reference to local media reportedthat the Supreme Electoral Court of Brazil will investigate Bolsonaro and his entourage in connection with alleged attempts to destabilize the presidential elections. The investigation was requested by the defense of Lula da Silva. The president-elect also pushed for an investigation into Bolsonaro’s abuses of allegedly increasing social benefits to increase his chances of re-election.

Lula da Silva was already the head of the Brazilian state from 2003 to 2010. In 2016, he became a defendant in a trial on charges of corruption and money laundering. In July 2017, he was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years and one month in prison and banned from public office for 19 years. In March 2021, the court annulled all proceedings against Lula da Silva in connection with the identification of procedural violations.
