The Global Times reports that the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict could hinder the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, and it could also deal a heavy blow to Washington’s policy in the Middle East.
According to Chinese experts interviewed by the newspaper, the surprise attack, which is caused mainly by Hamas’s intention to derail the US-backed normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, will eclipse the “wave of reconciliation” in the Middle East and serve as a “stern reminder” that reconciliation will not last long because -for the unresolved Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Analysts also believe the conflict will weigh heavily on Washington’s Middle East policy, including disrupting the new US-backed India-Middle East trade route.
As experts have noted, Hamas fears that if relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel are normalized, other Arab countries will follow this example, which will be destructive for Palestine, given the fact that all Palestinian forces oppose the normalization of relations between Arab countries and Israel and demand a settlement in Palestine -Israeli conflict as a precondition for establishing such relations.
