Borrell announced uncertainty about the financing of Ukraine

The US decision not to include spending on financing Ukraine in the interim budget increases uncertainty about Washington’s support for Kyiv. About it stated EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.

“Despite the Biden administration’s active involvement, this increases uncertainty about future U.S. support for this country. In the short term, we have not been able to compensate for the lack of US support, and we hope that our friends and allies will quickly find ways to break the impasse,” it said.

Borrell also recalled that the EU has already allocated a total of 82 billion euros to Ukraine since last year, of which more than 25 billion euros are for military needs. He confirmed Brussels’ readiness to train 30,000 Ukrainian fighters.

September 30 US House of Representatives approved an interim government funding project that will enable it to operate within 45 days. He excludes the provision of additional financial assistance to Ukraine. The interim budget will contain funds to cover costs associated with eliminating the consequences of natural disasters within the United States. The document was later approved by the Senate and signed by US President Joe Biden.

The decision of the Congress does not mean a stop to aid to Ukraine, since part of the funding goes through alternative channels, noted experts interviewed by Vedomosti. The Wall Street Journal later reported that the Pentagon had $5.2 billion left in military aid to Kyiv.

On October 5, Borrell has already reportedthat the EU cannot compensate for assistance to Ukraine, which was suspended by the United States. At the same time, he previously stated that the EU will continue to provide support to Ukraine, as well as work with the United States so that Washington continues to help Kyiv.

Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to the Ukrainian authorities. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, warned that pumping Ukraine up with weapons is bringing NATO closer to the dangerous point of a direct military clash with Russia.
