An exhibition of giant pumpkins has opened in the Aptekarsky Ogorod botanical garden of Moscow State University.

An exhibition of pumpkins, some of which weigh more than half a ton, is held as part of the annual autumn festival, where, by the way, you can admire unusual vegetables, pretty heathers or chrysanthemums of various varieties and colors.

As for pumpkins, the largest pumpkin grown this year in Russia is not at the exhibition in Aptekarsky Ogorod. The pumpkin-record holder of 2022 belongs to Andrey Gusev, a resident of Lukhovitsy near Moscow. According to the results of weighing at the Giant Pumpkin Championship, which was recently held in Ulyanovsk, the weight of the record holder was 783 kilograms. And after the measurement, it turned out that the circumference of the yellow-sided beauty is about five meters. Gusev, by the way, broke his own record last year – in 2021, the pumpkin grown by him, which weighed 693 kilograms, was also recognized as the largest in Russia.

The largest pumpkin at the exhibition in the Aptekarsky Ogorod weighs about 550 kilograms. And this is also, you see, a lot. So, in any case, there is something to see.

The exhibition will run until 2 October. True, on the weekend the first of the giant pumpkins will be solemnly cut, and everyone can get their pieces. A week later, on October 1 or 2, the same procedure will be carried out with the remaining vegetables.
