The German government has taken note of the statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the supply of Western tanks to Ukraine, said German Cabinet spokesman Steffen Hebeshtreit, writes TASS.
“The government, of course, took note of the words of the Russian president,” Hebeshtreit said. The official representative of the German Cabinet noted that Western countries, by supplying weapons, help Kyiv defend itself.
Hebeshtreit at the same time said that these statements will not affect the readiness of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to continue telephone conversations with Putin. He also pointed to “completely different assessments” of Berlin and Moscow of events in Ukraine. According to him, for Scholz “it is important to maintain such contact.”
The day before, February 2, during a performance at a concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad, Putin declaredthat Russia is again threatened by German tanks with crosses on board, but the West does not realize that in the event of a military confrontation with Russia, the use of armored vehicles alone will not end. According to the head of state, those who draw European countries, including Germany, into a military confrontation with Russia, and declare this as a fait accompli, do not understand that “a modern war with Russia will be completely different for them.”
