At the end of June, the EU Council approved an increase in the European Peace Fund (EPF) by 3.5 billion euros. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell explained that during its existence (since 2021), the fund has proved its worth and completely changed the approach to supporting partners in the field of defense. Taking into account the increase, the financial ceiling of the fund will be 12 billion euros.
The Pentagon reported that since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Washington has allocated a total of more than $43 billion to Kyiv for military assistance. The US authorities announced the previous package at the end of July. Then the amount of military assistance amounted to $ 400 million.
How wrote The Washington Post, since the outbreak of hostilities, Kyiv has received about $66.2 billion in military, financial and humanitarian assistance from the United States – the largest amount of support that Washington has provided to another country since World War II.
After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the United States and its allies began to provide military assistance to Kyiv. Russia has repeatedly criticized the supply of ammunition to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the end of May, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that military support for Kyiv from the West cannot affect the outcome of the special operation, it only delays the hostilities.
