Member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Germany Friedrich Merz called on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to transfer long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, which Kyiv has been asking for since 2023, as quickly as possible. He voiced his point of view during an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper.
According to him, deliveries of Taurus “would greatly help Ukraine.” In addition, he called the chancellor’s call for other Western countries to intensify their efforts to help Ukraine a good signal.
“If Scholz stops opposing the transfer of Taurus missiles, then the chancellor’s statement will be more credible,” Merz said.
Ukraine has repeatedly asked Germany to transfer Taurus missiles, but Berlin has always refused such a decision, fearing an escalation of the conflict.
